WSO2 Rolls Out Open Source Enterprise Mobility Platform with MDM, MAM

The latest WSO2 offering aims to empower IT manage both corporate and employee-owned Android or Apple iOS devices, as well as the mobile apps running on them, , according to Sanjiva Weerawarana, WSO2 founder and CEO
“The launch of our open source WSO2 Enterprise Mobility Manager is helping to fuel this revolution by bringing a new level of ease, flexibility and access to comprehensive mobile app and device management,” Weerawarana said in a statement. For MAM, WSO2 EMM helps IT with provisioning and deprovisioning apps to “enrolled” devices based on roles, user and policies. It also lets IT ‘blacklist’ apps and perform policy compliance monitoring on Android (with support for iOS coming soon), he added.
Other notable WSO2 EMM features include:
- Self-service device enrollment and management with end-user MDM console
- Support for Android and iOS (Blackberry, Windows Mobile and Laptop support coming soon)
- Integrates to enterprise identity systems for device ownership: LDAP, Microsoft Active Directory. Role based permissions for device management
- Policy-driven device management for security, data, and device features (camera, etc.)
- Ability to securely wipe enterprise configurations
- Support for single sign-on and multi-tenancy
- Deploy policies over-the-air
- Compliance monitoring for reporting, alerting, and device deprovisioning
- Email containerization
WSO2 Enterprise Mobility Manager is available as a software download that can run directly on servers or on top of WSO2’s platform-as-a-service software; as a WSO2 Cloud Virtual Machine running on the Amazon Elastic Computing Cloud, Linux Kernel Virtual Machine (KVM), and VMware ESX; and as a public cloud service hosted by WSO2, Weerawarana added. .
WSO2’s open source approach to enterprise mobility management also provides IT an intuitive enterprise mobile app store for Android and Apple iOS apps. The appstore aims to make it easier for companies to manage their app purchases and facilitates and encourage employee adoption and compliance, Weerawarana added.
WSO2 EMM easily integrates with several other WSO2 offerings, including WSO2 Identity Server (for authentication and authorization). WSO2 Complex Event Processor (for real-time analysis) and WSO2 Business Activity Monitor (for batch analysis).
WSO2 EMM is released under the Apache License 2.0, so it does not carry any licensing fees.
