healthcare_02BPM provider Appian is bringing mobile and social capabilities to Quest Diagnostics’ ChartMaxx document management software, to help hospitals improve patient-related processes. The joint BPM/ECM solution will combine patient and administrative data, improve task management, smarter e-forms and sports real-time communications.

Quest’s ChartMaxx enterprise content management (ECM) solution is consistently rated by analysts as among the top healthcare document management and imaging solutions. The partnership with Appian extends the power and productivity of quick access to appropriate data, improved processes and real-time communications among workers.

Combined, Quest’s ChartMaxx ECM and Appian BPM will help hospital CFOs and CIOs improve the efficiency of their health systems by improving the interconnectivity of disparate systems, documents processes and streamline integration to EHR (electronic health records) data, officials said.

Under the partnership, Quest ChartMaxx and Appian will unify healthcare and financial data, workflows and processes, documents, and let workers collaborate in real-time using desktops, laptops or mobile devices.  For mobile users, the applications will work via iPhone, iPad, Android and Blackberry RIM platforms, officials added.

“The healthcare industry is under pressure to maximize the quality and speed of patient care delivery while reducing costs. Enhancing the industry-leading ChartMaxx with our worksocial platform creates a unique and powerful solution for 21st century healthcare organizations,” Appian’s president and CEO Matthew Calkins said in a statement.

Phil Present, vice president for Quest Diagnostics Care360 Products noted another advantage. “Additionally, hospitals will be able to regularly identify process bottlenecks and adjust staffing and workflow by optimizing process efficiency flows, leading to improved operations that are centered on patient care,” he said in a statement.

One notable feature of the Quest ChartMaxx/Appian solution is its ability to offer “filtered” views of key business events, pending tasks and reports to make the system easy to use, according to Present. This will improve ease-of-use and enables the proper stakeholders to view just the information relevant to their roles or tasks, Present added.

Appian’s worksocial framework lets ChartMaxx users collaborate in real time, and provides data visualization to help ChartMaxx users gain insight and knowledge from the data, Calkins added. Users will also be able to securely access in real-time a range of patient data, including pre-registration, eligibility checking, financial aid/authorization.
