Red Hat Upgrades JBoss Business Rules Management System

Red Hat Inc. is shipping an updated version of its open source business rules management system to allow companies to quickly respond to changing conditions. JBoss Enterprise BRMS 5.1 is as part of its open source middleware portfolio, JBoss Enterprise Middleware.
JBoss Enterprise BRMS lets organizations make active decisions with easy business rules development, access and change management. The system lets companies quickly change business rules and make active decisions to respond to competition and changes in market conditions, according to Craig Muzilla, Red Hat’s vice president for middleware products.
“Consumers literally use BRMS functionality every day which is why having a cutting-edge system like what we are offering with JBoss Enterprise BRMS 5.1 is absolutely critical to help a business retain competitive advantages, engage customers and maximize revenue,” Muzilla said in a statement.
Under the covers, JBoss Enterprise BRMS includes a fast and efficient rule engine that implements the full Rete algorithm; rules authoring with an easy-to-use interface that allows business users and process owners to do their own development, updates and management; rules management, including a repository and web-based console to mange rules within applications, cloud and SOA environments.
The integrated set of features also allows SOA and applications developers to verify that the encoded rules implement the documented business policies, Muzilla added.
In addition to across-the-board performance upgrades, JBoss Enterprise BRMS 5.1 includes:
- A foundation in the JBoss Open Choice Strategy, building on a wide range of rules authoring and development, deployment, and management options
- Ease-of-use productivity tool improvements
- Improved auditability through new UI features
- Simplified rules services publication to applications, SOA and cloud deployments
- A technology preview of complex event processing (CEP) capabilities enabling active business decisions by the ability to look for interesting and significant patterns of business events and take action in real time
