pegacloudPegasystems has enhanced its Pega Cloud for BPM with updated security and integration features. Pega Cloud for BPM provides design and runtime options in the cloud, including a full suite of BPM and dynamic case management capabilities.

Beyond simple modeling, Pega Cloud for BPM is a SaaS (software-as-a-service)-based version of its full SmartBPM platform to design, deploy and run BPM solutions on-demand, and includes Pegasystems’ Build for Change BPM technologies.

“Our clients use us for demanding, mission critical applications in highly regulated industries, and they need to be sure that any cloud application they run meets the strictest of requirements,” said Alan Trefler, Founder and CEO of Pegasystems. In 2011, Pegasystems customers and partners built more than 200 applications using Pega Cloud with 100% service availability, he added.

Pegasystems’ full suite approach to cloud-based BPM also provides flexibility, Trefler added, noting the solution allows customers to move from the cloud to on-premise when and if they wish – without locking them into only running their applications on the cloud.

Pega Cloud for BPM’s latest version addresses security and compliance concerns that can arise with BPM-in-the-cloud options. In specific, Pega Cloud for BPM on-demand packages includes:

“Our clients…need to be sure that any cloud application they run meets the strictest of requirements.”

  • Managed services infrastructure, including 24x7 monitoring, hotline support and server and database administrative services. The Pega Cloud secure VPN allows tunneling of the full network stack from an existing on-premise data center.
  • Security and reliability that delivers 99.95% service level agreement (SLA). All data is redundantly mirrored across several servers in real time to prevent data loss. Nightly backups are stored in at least three geographically distributed data centers that use different Tier-1 carriers, power grids and onsite backup generators to ensure business continuity.
  • Dynamic scaling for infinite elasticity. The entire application and infrastructure scales in real-time to meet current demand on a minute-by-minute basis.
  • Broad support for regulatory requirements, including HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act); the Payment Card Industry and Data Security Standard (PCI DSS); and the European Data Privacy Directive.
  • Integration services and connectors for simple out-of-the-box integration to existing data centers and in-house applications. Pega Cloud integrates with backend systems through Web services such as SOAP, .NET, JMS, MQ Messaging and other technologies. This allows adopters to easily leverage information maintained in an existing on-premise your data center, as well as exchange messages with legacy systems.
  • Application portability to provide a choice between running solutions on the cloud or on-premise, throughout the application lifecycle.

At Gartner, the trend toward running some portion of BPM in the cloud gathered strong momentum in 2010, and is likely to continue.

“Nearly one out of five companies who are improving their business processes with BPM are using public or private cloud services to support at least one of their business processes,” Michele Cantara, Research Vice President at Gartner, said in a statement. “Companies that might not have considered cloud solutions a year ago are considering using BPMS as a service.“
