Openmind Goes with Open Source BI from JasperSoft
Openmind Networks, a provider of innovative router solutions for mobile and wholesale operators, will use JasperSoft’s open source business intelligence (BI) software as a core component of a new module that will deliver customers more relevant and reliable information.
To bring BI to wholesale carriers looking to provide client operators with details on how messages have been routed and delivered, Openmind will include JasperReports BI capabilities in Assure, its latest add-on module. BI-enabled Assure will provide client operators access to messaging traffic reports with a secure web based interface, according to an Openmind datasheet. .
“Jaspersoft enabled us to deliver on our ‘value for money’ commitment to our customers,” said Cathal Fitzpatrick, VP Product Management Openmind Networks, in a statement. “We found the tool to be excellent providing the right level of reporting that our customers desired and at the right price point.”
Openmind’s Assure module, based on JasperReports, provides operators with direct access to a library of technical and business messaging reports and helps reduce the time it takes to extract and produce reports.
With BI provided by JasperSoft’s software running in Assure, operators can track trends and monitor the take-up or rejection of certain messages. The information will help firms validate pricing and marketing strategies by being able to check them against real customer data and trends, according to Fitzpatrick. Another benefit from Assure is that operators will also be able to bring BI capabilities to the fight against fraud, by detecting irregularities in messages.
In 2008, Openmind began its quest to provide its customers ways to track the effectiveness speed and reliability of their messaging services. Openmind executives knew BI would be part of that solution, but the question remained whether to build their own BI capabilities, or buy/license it.
Because BI was not a core competency at Openmind, executives quickly decided not to build their BI capabilities in-house, and chose JasperReports, Jaspersoft in large part because it was available as open source software – thus avoiding the cost of licensing BI from other commercial firms.
