StarPound Targets Voice, Video Integration with Data, BPM

StarPound Technologies is shipping an update to its StarPound CORE open-source software voice-data integration platform to let enterprises IT more easily add voice, web, video, messaging and email communications to existing data, applications and e-customer interactions.

"With this release, Unified communications with business process management (BPM) is now a click away for any business [and meets] the market need for cost-effective ways to embed all types of communication into business processes," said said Scott Burkett, COO, StarPound, in a statement. "The easiest way to truly align business and IT is to use technology to facilitate business processes. StarPound CORE gives you an open-source platform for turning your critical processes into scalable web and voice services.

StarPound targets these types of applications with its offerings:
  • Creating and deploying composite web and voice applications;
  • Creating front-end web and voice applications for existing systems;
  • Receiving incoming calls, emails, faxes and web service requests and then initiating process workflow;
  • Routing incoming calls based on skills and permissions, and viewing screens of related data on a caller;
  • Initiating and managing outbound calls; and
  • Establishing chat, click to talk (or call back) with customers.
    • The StarPound upgrade includes a visual modeling tool and a sophisticated engine that easily powers information flow is at the center of the StarPound platform, the company said. StarPound software, which is built on open source technology, doesn't require any complex middleware integration, the company said.

    With this upgrade, StarPound's goal is to make open source options more competitive with current unified communications approaches, especially what Burkett calls, "expensive, disparate software and hardware that inevitably leads to time-intensive integrations."
