Survey: CIOs, Execs Want Better IT Agility

A recent survey finds CEOs and CIOs are unsatisfied with how their companies respond to business changes. The survey asked 320 execs to gauge their company strengths and weaknesses to responding to marketplace pressures. IDN looks at where say IT can help, and even where they say IT may be hurting.

A recent survey finds CEOs and CIOs are unsatisfied with how their companies respond to business changes. The survey asked 320 execs to gauge their company strengths and weaknesses to responding to marketplace pressures.



The survey conducted by the Business Performance Management Forum and webMethods Inc.



The study offers two key take-aways:

  • An increasing pace of change requires a new IT model that allows execs to "more readily transform operational insight into better business performance;?and
  • IT is critical to achieving this goal. Translation: "The more business- focused and outcome-oriented IT organization will
    ultimately thrive as a 'game changer' in this new environment.?

    Among the deliverables that IT should focus on, the study also suggested, are to provide execs and computer users the following:
  • 1. Access to relevant, real-time business insight and information; and
  • 2. Ability to adapt and modify key business processes

    • Among other key findings:

  • While execs value the ability to quickly build new apps, improve business processes, only 33% of execs responding said they are currently satisfied with their company's ability in these areas.
  • While execs value real-time access to market-critical data, only 30% of execs responding said they have such access.
  • Because rapid changes in customer preferences, regulatory needs or competition, IT needs rapid upgrades, yet execs said that as many as 40% of their core IT processes need fixing.
  • To get these IT improvements, 64% of execs responding said they are implementing or plan to implement SOA.
