The Total Defense Cloud Security is an integrated SaaS offering that provides a unified security solution for Web and email protection for desktop and mobile devices within a single management and reporting interface.

The convergence of Web, email and mobile access has created a set of new security challenges for IT, according Total Defense’s CEO to said Paul Lipman.

“The days of the typical business user accessing the Internet solely from the safety of a protected corporate network are over,” Lipman said in a statement. “Today’s workers are connecting from an array of different devices through a multitude of private and public networks, Wi-Fi hotspots, home networks and the like, “ he said.

Total Defense Cloud Security’s SaaS option provides users a secure Internet connection and also ensures that Web browsing is appropriate and complies with a firm’s acceptable use policies. In specific, Total Defense Cloud Security benefits include:

Security for mobile and remote users. For protection and policies that can be applied to users anywhere on any device, it provides

Anti-virus and blended threat protection. To detect and block virus attachments and malware including malicious URL links to protect corporate networks;

Anti-spam and phishing protection. This uses anti-spam technologies including IP reputation and real-time content analysis to detect and block spam in the cloud before it even reaches the email gateway;

Policy and compliance controls. To let companies ensure inbound and outbound compliance with compliance issues, data sharing and other compliance and governance issues. Seamless end-to-end policy management and enforcement across desktop and mobile workers is also included.

Application control. To let companies control social media, streaming media and Web-based messaging (e.g. Facebook, Skype, Google Talk, YouTube etc.)

Total Defense Cloud Security’s also protects against data leakage and provides comprehensive reporting. It also integrates with existing enterprise directories.

Total Defense Cloud Security’s use of a SaaS delivery model also serves to overcome some key limitations of today’s appliance-based security options, Lipman said. Among them: the need for more flexibility to keep pace with ever-changing security needs over all these median and deices, and avoidance of upfront costs and complex configuration tasks that come from hardware and software installs.
