Developers looking to jump into the booming wave of opportunity for Internet of Things (IoT) apps just got some help to dive in. A new IoT development partnership is underway between embedded development tools provider IAR Systems and Express Logic, Inc. a provider of royalty-free real-time operating systems (RTOSes).
With this new formal partnership, the two firms intend to make it easier and faster for developers to build, launch and secure apps for the IoT and related ‘connected’ markets.
The partnership comes as more experts agree that the design and development work for embedded apps continues to get more complex. There is a growing need to remove this complexity – and working together IAR Systems and Express Logic intend to ship pre-integrated solutions and complete development platforms, according to both company execs. The result of the partnership will not simply less complexity – but more collaboration among developers, they added.
“New markets and increased consolidations within the embedded industry drive the creation of new and evolved ecosystems. In this changing landscape, vendors need to work together at a deeper level to accommodate our customers’ demand for integrated, secure, and highly available technology,” said IAR Systems’ CEO Stefan Skarin in a statement.
“Thanks to the longstanding relationship between Express Logic and IAR Systems, we have a large number of joint customers with varied and complex requirements that include security,” added Express Logic’s president William Lamie.
- 100% MISRA-compliant C/C++ source code,
- single-click integration of IAR System’s C-SPY Debugger with Express Logic’s TraceX, and
- RTOS awareness capabilities that provide insight into application execution performance, as well as RTOS objects (such as threads, message queues, semaphores, and mutexes).
- Ability to leverage Express Logic’s extensive middleware, including integrated TCP/IP stacks, an embedded file system, USB protocol stacks and an embedded graphical user interface development toolkit.
One innovative IoT development solution, the Renesas Synergy Platform, has already emerged from the cooperative efforts of IAR and Express Logic. Their IoT development partnership will focus on additional opportunities to tightly integrate their products, and provide developers with tools that are secure and easier to use out-of-the-box. “Going forward, we will continue to intensify our work together in order to provide value for all of our customers, both within the innovative Renesas Synergy Platform and in other forms,” Lamie added.
The IAR Embedded Workbench is a rich set of development tools incorporating IDE tools, an optimizing IAR C/C++ Compiler and the C-SPY Debugger. The tools support devices from all major vendors.
Express Logic’s ThreadX RTOS has been deployed in more than 5.4 Billion products across consumer electronics, industrial control, medical devices, and wireless networking.
In addition, Express Logic’s recently announced X-Ware Secure Platform is based on IAR Embedded Workbench and is a direct result of the two firms’ IoT development partnership.
IAR Systems provides developers of embedded systems with world-leading software tools for developing competitive products based on 8-, 16-, and 32-bit processors. Established in Sweden in 1983, the company has over 46,000 customers globally.
Express Logic, headquartered in San Diego, Calif., offers advanced run-time solution for deeply embedded applications, including RTOS and middleware and a GUI development kit.
