vitria_02Vitria Technology is rolling out the first pre-built application for its Operational Intelligence platform. Vitria’s KPI Builder OI let business users monitor key performance indicators by tapping a wide range of historical and real-time data, including big data. The app also lets users make changes to ensure KPIs are met.

Vitria’s KPI Builder OI app works with the company’s OI platform to provide an architecture that lets business users derive insights into business operations based on a wide range of data, continuous monitoring, a correlation engine and real-time analysis, according to Vitria’s vice president of marketing Rick Saletta.

“The KPI Builder OI app is built on three key pillars – visibility, insight and action. Other solutions can do some of those, but not all three,” Saletta told IDN.

In specific, Vitria’s KPI Builder OI app can derive insights and information by correlating data  (from structured, unstructured and even Hadoop frameworks and other big data sources),  business events, social media, RSS feeds and more.

Beyond monitoring, KPI Builder OI app also lets users:

  • Easily share insights with team members.
  • Make informed decisions with real-time alerts and notifications.
  • Conduct drill-downs into data to gain actionable insights with as little as one-click.

“Traditional reporting applications are not enough and often the information is just outdated. Today, users need to be able to continuously track many of their KPIs in real-time so they can evaluate their performance and conduct situational analysis,” Saletta said. “As a result, we can help customers meet their KPIs, optimize their business processes and deliver exceptional customer experiences – and without expensive support from IT.”

Inside Vitria’s Operational Intelligence
Architecture for Real-Time Insights

Vitria’s OI apps are lightweight, easily-configured web apps with built-in capabilities to capture real-time analytics and deliver correlated business insights from a wide range of data. These apps can be both lightweight and powerful because they run on Vitria’s OI platform infrastructure.

Vitria’s OI platform enables OI apps to intelligently monitor business activities, as well as identify and detect situations relating to inefficiencies, opportunities, and threats. Under the covers, Vitria’s OI observes the progress of business activities, measures their impacts on KPIs in real-time and publishes them to dashboards, emails or other alerting systems.

Vitria’s approach to operational intelligence can also embrace business activity monitoring (BAM), complex event processing (CEP), business process management (BPM) and business intelligence (BI).

As a result, Vitria’s OI architecture can deliver a range of business insights and actions, including:

  • assess efficiency of the business activities
  • determine how the IT infrastructure and unexpected events affect the business activities
  • detect and remedy resource bottlenecks, system failures, events external to the company, etc.
  • determine how the execution of (or inability to execute) business activities contributes to revenue gains or losses.

These metrics also provide business users a starting point for further analysis, including root cause analysis.

Saletta lists several key ways customers are using Vitria’s OI platform capabilities to improve operations and profitability:

More Efficiencies. Enable operations managers to optimize asset utilization, as well as reduce capital equipment and maintenance costs.

Fraud Detection and Avoidance.
Continuously monitor correlated transaction data to detect suspicious patterns that might not be detectable by individual systems or point solutions.

Maximize Customer Activity and Loyalty.
Avoid “broken” order-to-cash and order fulfillment processes, which can result in millions of dollars in lost revenue. OI allows users to deploy powerful and insightful end-to-end process visibility solutions.

Two analyst firms give Vitria’s OI platform/apps approach the thumbs-up.

Vitria’s OI architecture delivers what 451 Research analyst Carl Lehmann called “a next-generation enterprise execution engine that couples process management, integration technology and business analytics into a real-time operational intelligence system.”

Gartner vice president Janelle Hill noted, “Real-time, situational visibility of in-flight business transactions and customer interactions is needed to more closely manage operational execution to strategic objectives.”
