Bi3 Solutions embeds the Talend Integration Suite within its cloud-based SaaS social media intelligence platform to ensure that their applications can process and extract content from high-volumes of social media data, according to Thomas Groh, co-founder of Bi3 Solutions.
Talend’s Big Data integration solution supports real-time integration and execution to support applications that need to handle vast, ongoing data streams at high speeds.
Bi3 Solutions chose Talend for its technology support for Big Data, as well ability to support hybrid (cloud, on-premise) environments. But, beyond the technology reasons, Bi3 Solutions also valued Talend’s OEM program, dubbed ‘Powered by Talend,’ which uses Talend’s revamped Integrated Decision Optimization Center (IDOC) platform.

Bi3 Solutions’ data analytics applications aim to help adopters measure and better understand customer feedback from social media, quantify those comments in the context of customer sentiment analytics and then use that data to improve customer service. Bi3 Solutions works with filters on real-time streams Twitter, Facebook and other social media sites. The filters can locate and tag specific topics of interest to provide companies real-time insights.
Integration Challenges
of Cloud-Based Big Data
Optimizing Bi3 Solutions’ SaaS offering for Big Data meant its infrastructure needed to meet several challenges. Groh said.
The first challenge was that Bi3 Solutions needs to handle a drastic increase in data volumes. Another arises because Bi3 Solutions runs in the cloud and extracts data from multiple sources, so its systems need to touch many individual nodes — all of which have constant flows of data. In this scenario, mission-critical connectivity was needed, so that if a node were to fail, the application could still hold on to incoming data during downtime -- and then resume processing when the node becomes functional again.
"In social media, the volumes being churned out are much larger – almost infinite, creating so called ‘Big Data’ challenges. Developers need to ensure that their applications had the ability to process and make sense of thousands of tweets and posts per second, and for more than one customer at a time.” Groh said in a statement. “In the past, we had to manage a limited amount of data flowing through a Customer Relationship Management or other in-house operational system.”
