Numara Software Inc. has launched the Numara Cloud Mobile Device Manager (MDM), extending the company’s cloud family of IT operations management solutions to enterprise mobility
Numara Cloud MDM aims to help enterprise IT securely manage smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices. It also allows enterprise managers to simply and securely register all the mobile devices that access their networks. Device-resident data is also secured with strong passcode requirements, encryption, security policies, and remote device lock and data deletion, according to Numara CEO Dave Hansen.
“Without proper control over mobile devices, sensitive company data can be accessed, and viruses can proliferate unabated potentially jeopardizing the security of the entire network,” Hansen said in a statement.
Numara Cloud MDM aims to deliver full lifecycle management of mobile devices for enterprise IT discovery to retirement of mobile device access, whether “retirement” came about as a lost device, hardware upgrade, or employee termination from the company. The offering comes with support for discovery, inventory, application management, and policy & security management, Hansen added.
Notably, Numara Cloud MDM, along with other Numara offerings, aims to let organizations track mobile device apps and system usage in real time, to present total picture of device access and capabilities linked to the network. If a mobile device is lost or stolen, IT can easily locate and recover it using GEO-Locating GPS options integrated with Google Maps.
As a result, the IT service desk can focus on other critical tasks and IT can more efficiently troubleshoot issues by using the system’s remote control functionality, screen sharing technology, and monitoring capabilities. Further, Numara’s latest offering secures sensitive data and offers end users secure access to company networks via mobile devices, including BYOD (bring your own device) approaches.
Numara Cloud MDM’s Approach To
Lifecycle Mobile Device Management
The Numara Cloud MDM also integrates with Numara Cloud IT Operations Management and Numara Cloud solutions to provide a complete lifecycle management capability, including:
Stage 1 – Inventory: IT managers receive a complete and accurate count of the mobile devices connected to your network, including details about that device (mobile OS, usage, apps installed, etc.) vice. Leveraging Numara Software Exchange Investigator, IT managers can quickly and accurately determine how many mobile devices are able to access their Microsoft Exchange environment, and require all users to register their mobile devices to access the corporation network.
Stage 2 – Configure: IT managers can offer simple device registration and configuration via a self-service registration site that can be easily customized to corporate needs. End users simply follow a few simple prompts to submit information about their device. Once the system receive4s this data, the employee receives a text or email with a URL with instructions for completing the device registration process. This also provides the device with auto-provisioning of appropriate policies, applications and login access.
Stage 3 – Monitor: IT managers are aware of what corporate data has been downloaded from networks to a mobile device (including personal productivity apps such as Outlook emails, Word docs and Excel spreadsheets). With Numara Software Exchange Defender, managers can also prevent unmanaged mobile devices from accessing and sharing corporate data or applications. Numara Software Exchange Investigator tracks device usage and reports to IT managers any exposure to potentially harmful messages and downloads. Capabilities to manage enterprise “app stores” are also available.
Stage 4 – Secure: IT managers can secure the data and the device. For instance, once a document is downloaded to a mobile device from an email, IT managers can also prevent users from sharing that information with another third-party device. Also, a stolen or misplaced device can be locked or remotely wiped to prevent unauthorized access
Stage 5 – Backup & Recovery: IT also gains several backup and recovery options to restore contacts, calendar, SMS, multimedia and other files to a device over-the-air. In addition, when users switch devices IT can migrate and backup data and policies in just minutes. Even with devices from different manufacturers (and operating systems), intelligent integrated field mapping can quickly re-populate and restore the user’s device.
Numara Cloud MDM, available as a cloud-based subscription, starts at $3.30 per device per month.
