Grid-Tools, a provider of test data management, test data generation and data masking software and solutions has teamed up with Software AG to provide high performing data masking solutions to Software AG’s Adabas customers.
The companies are working together to embed Grid-Tools Simple Datamasking product, into all Adabas products, so Adabas users can be sure the data being used in test and development environments remains anonymous and secure, officials said. In specific, the partnership will allow Adabas customers to de-identify data being used in non-production environments.
Data masking anonymizes data so it can be used securely in non-production environments, ensuring the data within a database is secured from development and testing through to production, according to company officials. The technology makes it easy for companies to successfully create and manage high quality “production-like” data.
Wikipedia adds to this overview, the following perspective on data masking and the software lifecycle, “Creating test and development copies in an automated process reduces the exposure of sensitive data. Database layout often changes, it is useful to maintain a list of sensitive columns in a without rewriting application code. Data masking is an effective strategy in reducing the risk of data exposure from inside and outside of an organization and should be considered a best practice for curing non-production databases.”
Grid-Tools/Software AG partnership will let Adabas customers to de-identify data being used in non-production environments, according to Software AG senior product manager Wolfgang Weiss. “Corporate data is an absolutely crucial business asset,” he said in a statement, adding that companies also need to maintain high standards in compliance, which includes ensuring sensitive data remains secure in non-production environments.
“Our relationship with Software AG will enable Adabas customers to easily access [our] data masking product, but it also demonstrates Grid-Tools’ continued strategy to increase the number of platforms we support in this space,” said Huw Price, Grid-Tools’ managing director, in the statement.
The companies plan to embed further test data management features into the Adabas product, including test data creation and generation, database subsetting and data coverage capabilities, officials from both firms said.
