omg_cloudOMG has formed the Cloud Standards Customer Council (CSCC). CA, IBM, Rackspace, Software AG and Kaavo are founding sponsors. Among end users, Lockheed Martin, Citigroup, North Carolina State University and more than 40 others are CSCC members.

The CSCC is a user advocacy group dedicated to accelerating cloud’s successful adoption, and focusing on the standards, security and interoperability issues around moving to the cloud.  It will complement existing cloud standards efforts and develop a set of client-driven requirements to give cloud users the same choices, flexibility, and openness they have with traditional IT environments.

CSCC specific goals, include:

  • Gain the acceptance of the Global 2000 to move customer requirements to development process
  • Deliver best practices, patterns, case studies, use cases, and standards roadmaps for users
  • Shape the development process for new cloud standards.
  • Facilitate the exchange of real-world stories, practices, lessons and insights.

“The Cloud Standards Customer Council will bring together these cloud veterans into a community where they can discover and disseminate best practices .”

Chairman and CEO

“The Cloud Standards Customer Council will bring together these cloud veterans into a community where they can discover and disseminate best practices for moving to and managing the cloud and help to drive standards across industry, both to end-users and vendors to bring down costs and increase choice,” said Richard Mark Soley, Ph.D., chairman and CEO, OMG, in a statement.

Angel Diaz, vice president, IBM Software Standards, said the council is designed to focus the things that provide the greatest cloud computing benefits for clients. “Ultimately, this effort is about how organizations can use what they have today and extend their business—using open standards—to get the greatest benefits from cloud,” Diaz said.

CSCC is open to all user organizations, will hasten the widespread adoption of cloud computing by working to prioritize important interoperability issues such as cloud management, reference architecture, hybrid clouds, in addition to security and compliance issues.
