Jitterbit 4.0 Simplifies Cloud IntegrationJitterbit is shipping a major upgrade to its data and application integration solution for on-premise and cloud projects. Jitterbit 4.0 aims to simplify cloud integration, support big data and promote better collaboration between IT and business.

“Connecting cloud, SaaS and other internal applications is a business and IT priority, and the growing use of hybrid clouds for connecting and moving data is driving an increased demand for easy-to-use and flexible technologies,” Ilan Sehayek, Jitterbit CTO told IDN.

Another guiding focus for Jitterbit 4.0, Sehayek added, is that customers also expect cloud integration to be accessible to non-IT users, and as easy as using an SaaS. “We’re seeing much more interest in cloud integration that ever before,” he said. “But this higher demand is driven by technologies that are simple to use and results easy to achieve.”

Jitterbit’s architecture blends design time and runtime technologies to provide simple wizards to allow users to quickly configure powerful integrations between their cloud and hundreds of on-premise enterprise applications.

Jitterbit 4.0 adds these core features:

GUI-Driven Simple Cloud Integration. Graphical tooling allows both technical and non-technical users to configure and manage a wide range of data migration and integrations using a simple drag-and-drop UI, Sehayek said.

Jitterbit Connect wizards allow non-technical users to quickly configure integrations between cloud and on-premise applications using web services, XML, databases or flat files. The Jitterbit Connect for Salesforce wizard has been updated to support Create, Update, Upsert, and Query calls. Jitterbit 4.0 also avoids the need to manually create data transformations and operations for web service request and response calls, he added.

Jitterbit 4.0 works with Jitterbit’s recently announced CloudReplicate, which ensures constant synchronization between on-premise and cloud-based data. JitterBit 4.0 capabilities are also available directly from the cloud to easily move assets between different databases or applications.

Enhanced Support for Big Data. Jitterbit 4.0 adds performance and scale to support complex, high volume integrations, and simplifies testing of large data sets.

“We’re seeing much more interest in cloud integration that ever before."

New global search and replace allows for one-click edits across large integration projects. For example, if the URL of a web service or name of a local database changes, Jitterbit will quickly find and replace every reference and connection so users don’t have to manually locate all places referenced within this data.

“In Jitterbit 3.0 we introduced the concept of ‘batch reading,’ which is the equivalent of database curser fetch. But, the user had to know to configure the cursor fetches,” Sehayek told IDN. In cursor fetch, programs can capture huge amount of data—20 million records, versus 100,00-200,000 records

“Jitterbit 4.0 provides the batch reads for systems, which removed those limits, so when we do the batch reads, it can process cursor fetches while reading more,” Sehayek said. The performance gain for read-intensive applications can be 100-fold, he added.

Better Ways To Promote IT/Business Collaboration. The Jitterbit 4.0 updated UI makes it easier for technical and non-technical staff to work together on data integration projects, and even allows non-technical users to do some work on their own, Sehayek said.

Jitterbit 4.0 adds automated data mapping tools, code-free transformation and formula wizards, and modes for both devs and business analysts, Sehayek said. A data transformation tool also intelligently alerts users about potential data mapping problems and conflicts between systems. In addition, a new Jitterbit Automapper can automatically map similar data fields between systems, saving time and reducing errors.

International (Unicode) Support. This allows Jitterbit 4.0 to connect any data from any language or country, including Chinese, Japanese, and Arabic character sets.

So, how would Sehayek assess the cloud integration sector? Strong and growing.

“We’re seeing much more interest in cloud integration that ever before, especially among mid-sized companies and departments that have specific business needs and projects,” Sehayek told IDN. “When we can start small, we can deliver a solution and not require a large IT infrastructure approval.”

As an example, Sehayek points to several customers using or planning to use Jitterbit 4.0 to keep massive databases in synch between cloud and on-premise. These databases can be up to 30 million records, Sehayek said. “That kind of cloud data integration can be time-consuming and a nightmare, and we’re finding our new approach is really getting traction because of the time it saves,” he told IDN.

Another firm, Jelecos, a service provider for agricultural equipment dealer, Lindsay, chose Jitterbit for ETL and data integration.

Jelecos supports Lindsay's data warehousing initiatives, which consolidates data from multiple international deployments of Microsoft Dynamics NAV ERP software for timely analytics and executive dashboards. Jelecos used Jitterbit to build smart “cascading” extraction of data within each time zone, which provides Lindsay’s business users near real-time executive dashboards.

Because Jitterbit can reliably automate daily integration routines, it has become Jelecos’ tool of choice for upcoming integrations with Salesforce CRM, Micro Strategy BI and other internal products.

Jitterbit 4.0 is immediately available in Professional and Enterprise editions that meet both mid-size and Fortune 2000 integration needs.
