FuseSource Ships Eclipse-based Fuse IDE for Apache Camel
FuseSource Corp. has released a new IDE aimed at making it easier for open source developers to work on integration and messaging projects using Apache Camel or Fuse Mediation Router. A trial version of the Fuse IDE for Camel is available now.
FuseSource Corp. has released a new IDE aimed at making it easier for open source developers to work on integration and messaging projects using Apache Camel or Fuse Mediation Router, Jack Britton, Fuse IDE for Camel product manager told IDN.
A trial version of Fuse IDE for Camel is available now for download.
IDN spoke with Britton about the latest Fuse IDE for Camel features, which include:
Enterprise Integration Patterns. To speed development, the Fuse IDE for Camel comes with implementations of well-known enterprise integration patterns. “These EIPs provide developers an important set of predefined building blocks for integration projects,” Britton told IDN.
With EIPs pre-bundled in, the Fuse IDE for Camel lets devs visualize the integration patterns, especially for more complex end-to-end or multiple projects, he added. “This feature has been a real hit with our beta users and early adopters,” Britton said.
GUI-Driven Wizards for Codefree Projects. Fuse IDE for Camel also comes with a powerful GUI and set of development wizards to eliminate the need to write code, allowing devs to “drag and drop” integration and mediation components, rapidly connecting systems. The IDE actually lets devs visually connect software components, speeding integration and streamlining the development process.
Rich Design-Test-Deploy Lifecycle Support. Fuse IDE for Camel provides more than a developer design time workbench; it offers a full range of lifecycle support. “We designed the IDE so that developers can use our GUI, see the integration taking place, test it and easily deploy their project into a runtime container, such as Apache Service Mix,” Britton told IDN.

This end-to-end capability has proven especially popular among beta testers. “One of our bigger customers had a larger project where they had to deliver integrations at a number of places. Using Camel IDE, they could visually represent what they wanted to do, check it with the business managers and had the entire project written tested and into production in five working days,” Britton said. “The visual representations really make it easy for IT and business to work together.”
Integrates with Eclipse, Maven. The Fuse IDE for Camel offers Eclipse-based tooling to allow devs and architects to work in a familiar environment. It also works with Maven and includes menu-driven wizards. “Thanks to Eclipse integration, if you need an Apache Camel route based on Spring, Eclipse can do all that work for you. It really does take a lot of drudgery out of projects,” he said.
Other Fuse IDE for Camel features include:
- Standard notation: All integration and mediation components in Fuse IDE for Camel use standard notation, making it easy to define and reuse routes.
- Route validation: Fuse IDE for Camel ensures that all links between nodes are validated before the link is created; if the target node is not valid, the editor will not allow the connection.
- Deployment flexibility: Recognizing that enterprises use a variety of technologies to accomplish their development goals, Fuse IDE for Camel allows developers and architects to deploy routes into Apache ServiceMix, Fuse ESB, Spring, JEE servers or standalone JVMs.
Fuse IDE for Camel will be featured at FuseSource’s CamelOne Conference, May 24-26, 2011 in Arlington, Va.
The Fuse IDE for Camel is available now as part of the Fuse Mediation Router subscription. A trial version is available for immediate download.
