Nimsoft Provides Cloud, Virtualization Management to Service Providers, Users
Basefarm is using technologies from Nimsoft to manage the performance and ensure availability of its hosted infrastructure, services and applications. The Nimsoft Monitoring Solution (NMS) will also support Basefarm's launch of cloud-based services, including IaaS, PaaS and SaaS.
Basefarm selected NMS for its scalability, detailed reporting and customized dashboards, which enable the company to optimize the client experience and deliver a greater range of large-scale services, according to Bjart Kvarme, Basefarm CTO.
Basefarm is one of Northern Europe's leading providers of operational and IT-related services, with more than 130 clients across 15 countries. Basefarm's current infrastructure of 3,000 servers supports a wide range of high-volume client applications, including portals, online publications, streaming, search engines, and e-commerce.
"NMS will be a key technology enabler as Basefarm expands its offerings to address clients' rapidly evolving cloud strategies," said Kvarme in a statement. Basefarm plans to roll out a wide range of cloud-based services for clients, including IaaS, PaaS and SaaS.
"Service providers face a dual challenge -- having to both successfully manage their own environments and give clients visibility.”

CEO
Nimsoft
Nimsoft designed NMS express to provide both providers and clients with management and visibility required by each, according to Nimsoft CEO Gary Read, and that two-pronged approach also applies to the company’s cloud and virtualization offerings.
"Service providers, like Basefarm, face a dual challenge having to both successfully manage their own environments and give their clients visibility into the appropriate portion of those environments," Read said in a statement.
Nimsoft’s ‘Unified Monitoring’
for Cloud, Virtualized Resources
Nimsoft’s NMS is based on the company’s Unified Monitoring architecture, which is designed for cloud (public or private), virtualized environments and SaaS implementations. Nimsoft is used by some of the best-known cloud and managed hosting firms in the sector, including Rackspace, CDW, SoftLayer, among others.
The Nimsoft Unified Monitoring architecture is addresses five (5) key monitoring requirements, for providers and/or end users. They include:
- Scalability & High-Availability: The architecture scales and extends to meet evolving challenges. It is based on a specially-designed message bus that uses a publish/subscribe framework and also standardizes the communication between data collection, data aggregation, and data analysis. As a result, Nimsoft’s architecture provides a single and extensible implementation across all computing components and infrastructures to deliver scalability, as well as high availability, extensibility, and rapid deployment.
- Extensible Data Collection: Through Nimsoft Unified Monitoring APIs, new probes can be easily built and integrated into the architecture. As a result, NMS can support the monitoring and management of today’s IT infrastructure, and extend to support future implementations.
- Business Service Correlation: The architecture enables aggregation of monitoring data from disparate sources, and also enables the effective correlation of this data to provide an accurate global view of a discrete business service. This correlation capability is available for any business service, regardless of the number or type of systems or services on which it is based.
- Intuitive Visualization and Reporting: The architecture also allows organizations to leverage the monitoring data being gathered. Users can view a broad range of information they need with customizable dashboards, reports, and alerts.
