Mobile business intelligence (BI) is closing out the year with a bang. Endeca Technologies Inc., a search and BI firm is teaming with MeLLmo, developer of Roambi mobile data visualization for a new generation of real-time, mobile BI. In addition, MeLLmo has secured $10 million in new venture funding.
Under the partnership, Endeca and MeLLmo will integrate their flagship products (Endeca Latitude and Roambi ES3) to allow workers to use mobile devices for critical BI and data gathering to answer business-critical questions. Under the covers, Roambi’s ES3 server will communicate with Endeca Latitude to give users secure, interactive data visualizations on their mobile devices, according to the official joint statement.
“This integration partnership gives customers BI that overcomes the constraints of traditional systems,” said Dave Caruso, Endeca’s vice president for enterprise product management and marketing in a statement. The project will allow workers to push data from Endeca discovery applications to the iPhone or iPad visualizations and analyze it anytime, anywhere. Mobile BI will cut costs, improves productivity and increases customer satisfaction, Caruso added.
Both companies expect the technology integration between the two firms will create a new generation of mobile BI apps – ones that provide fully integrated search, guided navigation capabilities and analytics for structured data and unstructured content on just about any mobile device.
The new apps will leverage Endeca’s MDEX Engine search-analytical database, and will work with Roambi’s latest Blink visualization technology. The apps are slated to ship by the first half of 2011, company officials said.
Roambi allows for data in spreadsheets and documents to be easily viewed on both the web and mobile platforms in customizable charts and graphs. Roambi users can access data from Excel spreadsheets, Google Spreadsheets, HTML table data, CSV files, and Salesforce CRM reports to the online Roambi Pro Publisher. Roambi also support uploads of data from business applications from IBM, Microsoft, Oracle, SAP and others.
As to MeLLmo’s latest $10 million funding infusion, MeLLmo chairman and founder Santiago Becerra describe his company’s partnership and technology goals in a statement.
“Our third round of funding will allow us to expand globally, delivering Roambi to a worldwide market. We will continue to develop strategic reseller, system integrator and technology partnerships with industry-leading companies, and invest in further enhancements to the unparalleled Roambi experience for viewing and interacting with business data on a mobile device.”
