KANA Software Inc., a provider of customer service experience management, will use virtualized hosted infrastructure under a deal with Layered Technologies.  KANA’s approach embraces virtual private data centers (VPDCs), managed services and disaster recovery solutions.

Kana chose Layered Technologies because the only provider offered internationally-based data centers with highly scalable and reliable infrastructure, said Stuart Mills, vice president of International Global Consulting at KANA, in a statement. KANA also wanted to provide customers more robust application management and security in a managed hosted approach.

“It was essential that we find an infrastructure provider capable of supporting KANA’s growth on both sides of the Atlantic, while providing the cloud infrastructure required to meet our customers’ highest security and disaster recovery requirements,” Mills said in a statement.

Layered Technologies’ VPDC will enable KANA to more quickly bring products to market and increase revenue. Further, KANA customers can more easily scale up or down to meet customers’ changing needs, Mills added.

Layered Technologies offers VPDCs based on AppLogic, VMwaare and Microsoft Hyper-V.

The company’s VPDC Virtual Private Data Centers (VPDC) are complete enterprise-grade IT platforms, designed to provide customers control of their own “private grid,” according to the Layered Technologies website descriptions. VPDCs are designed to be agile and richly configurable.  In specific, the company said, “They assemble infrastructure components on-demand, configures them, and then run… applications.”

When users need additional performance, added resources can be added in minutes,” the description added.  Further, because VPDCs are independent of hardware, assembly and management of the solution can be done from a simple web browser interface, from anywhere in the world.

KANA will also continue to offer customers on-premise solutions, which can be managed on the organization’s own infrastructure. “Layered Tech customized their managed services offering to supplement the areas where we need help, blending our skill sets with theirs,” said Mills.
