Veryant isCOBOL Achieves Windows 7 Compatibility
Veryant’s isCOBOL Application Platform Suite 2010 has earned “Compatible with Windows 7” designation, having passed compatibility, installation, performance, reliability and security tests and requirements set by Microsoft.
Veryant’s isCOBOL application platform suite 2010, including IDE and runtime, has passed compatibility and reliability requirements for Microsoft’s Windows 7, earning the “Compatible with Windows 7” designation.
Both isCOBOL IDE and isCOBOL runtime met Microsoft’s testing requirements for compatibility with 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 7, and passed tests for installation, performance, reliability and security.
As a result, Veryant APS 2010 lets customers instantly bring Windows 7 into their COBOL application development, modernization and distribution plans -- without performance hits or added fees for changing platforms, according to Alfredo Iglesias, Veryant’s VP of business development.
“isCOBOL users enjoy a wealth of environments in which to develop and deploy,” Iglesias said in a statement. “Veryant is committed to helping customers simplify application distribution and keep their COBOL-based applications relevant in today’s evolving world of computing requirements.”
Veryant offerings now Win7-ready include:
- Veryant’s isCOBOL APS 2010 runtime environment, which is written 100% in Java, and follows the company’s “buy once, run anywhere” approach, which enables applications, logic UI and data access to run on any device supporting a JVM ( Java Virtual Machine), from mainframes to mobile phones. The isCOBOL runtime is also designed to makes efficient use of multi-threaded, multi-core systems, and deliver high throughput via bundled features that include a debugger, thin client, distributed processing capabilities, and ISAM file systems.
- Veryant’s isCOBOL APS 2010 IDE, which provides devs a single environment for all COBOL tasks, ranging across design, coding, testing and debugging. Based on the Eclipse framework, it includes a COBOL source editor, a real-time COBOL syntax checker to validate code during the coding process, an integrated debugger with remote capabilities to unify cross-enterprise teams for COBOL, Java and C/C++ programmers, compiling capabilities, and project handling.
ISV customers that develop applications with isCOBOL can offer them for Windows 7 environments, making them more competitive than software solutions developed using other COBOL software, according to the company. Additionally, Veryant APS 2010’s Windows 7 compatibility makes it easier for partners and ISVs to enter the Windows 7 market.
