The traditionally razor-thin margins make it even more critical for retailers to not only cut IT costs but avoid burdensome, recurring mainframe costs,” according to Ken Powell, president of Micro Focus’ North American operations.
“We work with retail customers to identify which applications make sense for modernization and execute… strategies that reduce hard costs,” while also enabling competitive differentiation, Powell said in a statement.

Micro Focus modernization projects for retailers include:
- Helping Tesco, the UK-based retailer, modernize and extend its supply chain management system for international growth.
- Allowing Peek & Cloppenburg, one of Germany’s largest upscale clothing retailers, to migrate its entire enterprise resource management system from the mainframe to Windows, saving millions and improving batch performance by 57%.
- Enabling REI, the Seattle-based outdoor equipment retailer, support connectivity in a Windows environment and support a range of vendor software functions.
Micro Focus modernization solutions are also allowing retailers to deliver new applications and services more quickly, cutting time from design to deployment by up to 40 percent, Powell added.
