London-based Millennium Global Investments is improving compliance system by using Red Hat’s open source JBoss Enterprise BRMS (Business Rules Management System) for its mission-critical business rules repository. MGI will standardize its business rules and bring them into a more manageable environment, officials said.
MGI also liked JBoss Enterprise BRMS’ transparency and ease-of-use, which will let their business users access detailed information about why certain rules may prevent trading. As a result, MGI workers will be more efficient and will be able to cut down on the number of queries sent to MGI’s IT department, an MGI official said.
Richard Macaskill, managing director of MGI’s IT & Systems Development also said JBoss Enterprise’s BRMS open source licensing and subscription support model were also factors in adopting the product.
“Red Hat’s flexible subscription terms for JBoss Enterprise Middleware allowed us to deploy only the components needed for the new platform and to avoid vendor lock-in,” Macaskill said in a statement. “Unlike other vendors, Red Hat offers the ability to support other applications of the rules engine, be it market signal monitoring or algorithmic trading.”
Key JBoss Enterprise BRMS features include:
- Business Rules Engine - Highly flexible and embeddable in a wide variety of enterprise applications and business processes. Rules can be updated through editors, spreadsheets, as well as Eclipse dev tools and Web 2.0 business analyst- friendly tools.
- Web 2.0 Rules Authoring and Management Tools - Designed for business analysts and process owners to craft and update rule sets supporting their business processes, the tools extend the value delivered to a wider audience of enterprise stakeholders beyond the Java developers. The Rich Internet Application (RIA) user interface allows business users to author and edit business rules, as well as do their own versioning and deployment management.
- BRMS Repository - Enables version control of business rules artifacts, including fact models, enumerations, functions, domain specific languages (DSL) definitions, rules and tests. The BRMS repository provides the foundation for the Web 2.0 and other management tools for great business agility.
JBoss officials said the contract underscores the benefits that open source business software. JBoss Enterprise BRMS, when deployed with other JBoss Enterprise Middleware such as JBoss Enterprise SOA and Portal Platforms, will let companies create better customer experiences, delivering up-to-date data for improving services, support and products to customers, all at lower CapEx and OpEx.
“Automating business decisions with JBoss Enterprise BRMS can help a business run faster and enable business process stakeholders to rapidly implement change,” said Pierre Fricke, Director, SOA Products, Red Hat, in the statement. This is the kind of agility that enterprise deployments demand in today's marketplace.”
