IBM's Rational Software division unveiled 20 new commercial products based on its Jazz collaboration platform to better enable collaboration among an organization's employees, partners, suppliers, and customers. The Jazz product and partner rollout took place during IBM's 2008 Rational Software Development Conference in Orlando, Fla.
One of the highlights among the almost two dozen Jazz-related offerings is IBM's Rational Team Concert, a tool designed to help software teams collaborate in real-time in the context of specific roles and processes, through social networking technologies like instant messaging.
To be specific, IBM Rational Team Concert includes automated data gathering, which results in less documentation and provides real-time project health information required to reduce risks.
IBM also announced a Team Concert Express Edition for smaller software delivery teams with 10 to 50 members, and a Team Concert Standard Edition, for mid-sized companies and smaller software delivery teams in large companies. All three of the editions of the product are available now.
IBM Rational Team Concert is a collaborative software delivery environment that empowers project teams to simplify, automate and govern software delivery. Automated data collection and reporting reduces administrative overhead and provides the real-time insight required to effectively govern software projects.
Dynamic project provisioning enables day one productivity, while real-time collaboration helps significantly reduce scrap and rework. Rational Team Concert extends the capabilities of the Team with integrated work item, build, software configuration management (SCM) and the collaborative infrastructure of the Jazz team server
"Currently, organizational, geographical and technical silos inhibit business agility and return on software investments. In a globally integrated enterprise, organizations need to transform how they collaborate to get the job done," said Daniel Sabbah, general manager, IBM Rational Software, in a statement. "IBM's Jazz platform breaks down location, infrastructure and organizational barriers, transforming the practice of global software delivery."
IBM Jazz Gets Accompanists
Alongside IBM Jazz product offerings, there were also a number of ISV and tool vendors supporting the effort.
Other partners: QSM, Ravenflow, Surgient, and VMLogix
To encourage more partnerships, IBM launched Ensemble - a Jazz-focused partner program offering ISVs and resellers technical support, as well as sales/marketing assistance.
